2009 in Books

2009 was my slowest year for reading since I have been keeping track (since the year 2000). This is due to the fact that in 2009, in addition to working full time, I went to school part time. In 2009, I read a total 52 books which came to a total of 19,636 pages. Of these books, 19 were written by men, 33 by women. 44 of the books were fiction, the other 8 were non-fiction.
I have decided that if I am not enjoying a book, I will not finish reading it. This is a fairly new concept for me, but I came to realize that my limited reading time is precious and I want to enjoy every minute of it. Here is a list of the books that I began to read but decided not to finish. I may try to read them again this year though. I still dislike the idea of leaving a book only half read.

1- Along Came Mary by Jo-Ann Mapson
2- My Booky Wook by Russell Brand
3- Atmospheric Disturbances by Rivka Galchen
4- Franny and Zooey by JD Salinger
5- The Last Witchfinder by James Morrow
6- The Elegance of the Hedgehog by Muriel Barbery
7- The Frog King by Adam Davies
